In March, the "European Learning Resources" meeting gathered close to hundred organisations and EUN's partners in Brussels to learn more about possible ways to share and re-use digital learning resources with schools and national authorities in Europe. More information about the events and presentations can be found at the link below.
European Schoolnet has also completed the revision of the Learning Resource Application profile. The current version, v 2.0., is out since May 2006. An Application profile is used to describe digital learning resources in the form of metadata. More precisely, in the European Schoolnet context, an application profile provides an agreed set of metadata elements and vocabularies that are used by all the participating learning object repositories to help users better find the learning resources that they need. The LRE Application Profile focuses on the needs of European school sector.
A series of interoperability events will be organised in Paris mid-June by the partnership of an eLearning project called LIFE (Learning Interoperability Framework for Europe, http://life.eun.org) that European Schoolnet manages. The idea is to get a number of eLearning platform and service developers together to test the interoperability between services already at an early stage, before it is used by teachers and learners. This is to guarantee the best possible user experiences with new technologies.
A new sub-section has also been added to the Interoperability part of the Insight portal concentrating specifically on Learning Resource Exchange in Europe. The area can be accessed either at http://lre.eun.org or though the Insight portal. In this sub-section information about LRE-related actions can be found, as well as how to join the federation, what metadata is required, and so on.
